MEDICAL TEACHING HOSPITAL & PROVIDING SPECIALITY CARE AT THE  MEGA HOSPITAL

Out-of-box thinking

The new Mega Hospital should have been used to help the university convert the medical college from a local campus of the London College to an independent medical college of University of Windsor, with facilities, of use to Windsor and the whole of the region of North America.

Reputed Super-speciality Centers are normally associated with Medical Colleges. If the University could develop the Mega Hospitals as a full-fledged university health care and research institution, the management of the Windsor Regional Hospital might have found ways of retaining and strengthening the healthcare facilities in the core of the city.

Besides other areas of research of interest to the university and its Professors, the development of the following would be appropriate for Windsor and would be of use to the entire region:

1.       Center for Geriatric Care and Research,

2.       Center for Ocular Care and Research.

Bringing coherence to the City's Policy Regime:

  • If the City markets itself as the Retirement Home for Canada, a full-fledged university health care and research institution, which has the best geriatric care facilities, catering to the Retirement Homes in the Region  would be in order.

  • If the City wants to diversify its economy, it should see that its new investments in Healthcare can bring additional well-paying jobs and that Windsor can serve the needs of the whole of the region, including our neighborhood in USA, by providing quality care at lower costs.

If after the city has spent millions of dollars on the MegaHospital, we have to go to London to access reputed medical experts, the investment would not bring any enhanced benefits to the region.

If additional beds, in good number do not become available and if the City is not able to attract more people from a wider area of the region to use its Healthcare facilities, the investment would not diversify the City's economy.

Alex supports building of University Medical Hospital which becomes center of teaching, research and super specialty at the Airport road. This University Medical Hospital is completely independent of the Windsor Regional Medical Organisation that runs downtown two hospitals. Alex is the right person at the City Council to  develop innovative ways of progress for the City.

Questions for Windsor residents to ask what they are getting for $200M tax levy they are paying

Q1. Is it going to diversity Windsor economy in healthcare and medical education?

Q2. Is it going to substantially increase the number of doctors or beds ?

Q3. Will it reduce visits to University Medical Hospital in London for super specialist referral?

Q3. Is it going to isolate if case there are OHIP cuts to the Windsor Regional Hospital? Hint: In case of the University professors/doctors are paid by Ontario Dept of Education?

It the answer is No! then vote for University Hospital Plan!

PRESS RELEASE Dated 12th Aug 2018

Statement Regarding The Mega Hospital: A BETTER SOLUTION

Alex Aggarwal, candidate for councillor in Ward 9 of the City of Windsor, today announced his vision and position regarding the Mega Hospital.  Alex supports the establishment of a Teaching & Research Medical Hospital, under the management of University of Windsor , for converting the current satellite medical college to a full-fledged medical college.

Super-speciality Centers are associated with University Medical Colleges e.g. we go to London to obtain the advice of super specialists as it has a university medical hospital.  Building a Mega Hospital will not remove the need for residents of the region to go to London, but building a University Hospital will reduce such a need. The University may decide about the exact location of the Hospital.

The advantages of the teaching hospital approach include:

1.     Existing hospitals, including WRH-Met, remain open. Local care remains local.

2.     Operational funding for the new teaching university hospital comes from the provincial ministry of education budget, not from the Healthcare budget. Thus it will insulate a large part of Windsor’s Hospital facilities from OHIP cuts.

3.     Additional healthcare jobs help diversify the Windsor-Essex workforce.

4.     Local expert professors/doctors will mean fewer trips to London etc for patients.

5.     Windsor markets itself as the retirement destination of Canada. The University Hospital may be able to support the effort by providing more beds and additional facilities.

6.     Patient satisfaction will increase due to competition between hospitals striving for highest efficiency and highest customer satisfaction.

On behalf of the Windsor-Essex residents, who are paying $200M tax levy, Alex puts the following questions about the proposal of the Hospital to the decision-makers:

Q1. Is the new Mega Hospital going to diversity the region’s economy and create good jobs in healthcare?

Q2. Is it going to substantially increase the number of doctors and beds in the hospitals in Windsor?

Q3. Will it reduce visits of patients from Windsor-Essex to University Medical Hospital in London for super specialist referral?

Q4. Windsor visualizes and markets itself as a retirement destination of Canada. Is the investment in any way coherent with the vision?
